Pepin Aero, LLC is developing a twin jet amphibious flying boat called the Sea Panther. This aircraft will cruise at 420 knots at 38K feet and will stall at 60 knots to allow water operation using hydrofoils. A full scale fuselage mock up is being built at our facility in Greenville, Maine. Development of the two to four place version of the Sea Panther will provide a basis for design of the air taxi version. Preliminary design including engine identification, airfoil selection, weight estimates and surface lines was performed by G2 Systems Design of Wichita, Kansas.
Sea Panther briefing presented at the International Seaplane Fly In
This initial fuselage mock up was hand crafted to create the external shape and internal spaces of the Sea Panther. The surfaces were then digitized with laser scans. The digitized model was then modified during initial performance design trade studies to arrive at the final external lines.
Any avionics package would be available; however, our preliminary review of fighter and helicopter accidents has shown that the backup analog gauges would be more effective in the case of spatial disorientation.
Our further goal is to provide a quiet, roomy, pressurized cockpit/cabin with excellent air quality.
This display model was 3D printed from the final lines of the airplane. This preliminary design has very attractive lines while meeting the performance targets of 420 kt cruise, 60 kt stall and 1000 nm range.
